The Pacific Explorer Ecotour gives visitors a chance to see and experience not only whales and dolphins, but so much more!

The Pacific Explorer Whale and Dolphin Ecotours are 4 1/2 - 5 hours led by one of our highly knowledgeable Marine Ecotour Guides.
Trips depart daily, leaving promptly at 9:00 a.m

The International Ecotourism Society defines Ecotourism as:
"Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990)
Ecotourism is about connecting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel. This means that those who implement and participate in responsible tourism activities should follow ecotourism principles. There are six defining areas to follow in order to be recognized as an ecotour: fostering education, building environmental awareness, providing a platform for researchers and research organizations as well as promoting, hosting and donating to environmental and conservation groups.
Why is the ecotour different?

  • We "adopt" an environmental, conservation or grassroots organization every month and donate a percentage of all tickets sales (your ticket purchase).
  • Each month, we host one of these organizations to raise money by fundraiser or a speaking engagement onboard the Pacific Explorer.
  • The Pacific Explorer is opened up as a research "platform" for all the surrounding organizations and projects. This gives them an opportunity to understand the Monterey Bay from the surface of the ocean, rather than on land.

We have been providing nature tours to tourists and locals for over 30 years, and we have a responsibility to use our resources to educate, enhance and protect the environment. The Pacific Explorer Whale and Dolphin Ecotour is a trip to look, touch and learn about the Marine Life here in the Monterey Bay, ranging from the smallest creatures, plankton, to the largest in existence on our Planet Earth, the Blue Whale. We start the adventure with the inner harbor and it’s close to shore animals, then visit the kelp forests to learn about the diverse life they support.  Finally, we head to the outer bay and the deep water canyon to explore the abundance of marine mammals.
